J.P. Collier's partial translation of Reynard the Fox, ca. 1840.

Partial, handwritten verse translation of Reynard the Fox. Collier notes that he started this work long before Samuel Naylor's version appeared (in 1844) at the insistence of H.C. Robinson. He abandoned the effort after discovering that Naylor was working on a similar venture.

Henry Crabb Robinson was an English barrister and foreign correspondent, reporting from the continent during the Napoleonic Wars. In 1811 he began keeping a diary, in which he recorded thoughts and observation on friends and acquaintances, including most of the major literary figures in England and continental Europe.
